Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager

Good Agriculture is hiring a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager!

Good Agriculture is an early-stage, venture-backed start-up supporting current & future regenerative farmers with business services so they can do what they do best: produce food that regenerates ecosystems and nourishes people. We are scaling the regenerative agriculture revolution, and our team makes an impact on our food system and our environment every day. We support 75+ farmers with our financial management services – you will be the fourth member of our financial management team.

Good Agriculture is hiring a Senior Accountant! We are seeking a tech-savvy senior accountant with deep FP&A experience to expand our financial reporting services for farmers. This team member will help take our “Premium” financial management tier from an MVP (“minimum viable product”) to a robust, repeatable, and professional set of processes. Here’s what’s unique about this position: we’re actively building financial management software so we can support more farmers at affordable prices, and we’re looking for someone who’s excited to help us test out new technology, adapt their processes each month to what the tech can and cannot do, and help us identify additional opportunities to serve farmers better.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Financial reporting for farmersWe run financial reporting for our farmer customers each month, and many of them need sophisticated and bespoke reporting. This role will help us build best-in-class and repeatable reports for profitability by enterprise, unit profitability, budget versus actual performance, cash projections, inventory tracking, and more.
  2. Process development and optimization: This role will also help us develop data collection processes with our customers that let us run these reports with a high degree of data fidelity. You will review our current processes and identify opportunities for improvement. As a small start-up, many of these reports are “minimum viable products” – so there is a lot of room to improve them!
  3. Bookkeeping for farmers: This includes a range of responsibilities listed in Appendix A at the end of this job description – prior experience doing all of these is helpful but not required. While FP&A is super critical for this role, a great accounting & bookkeeping foundation is also required.
  4. Customer service for our farmer customers: This includes collaborating with the farmer directly (and being able to communicate complex financial topics in an easily-understandable way), providing fast service, and collaborating with farmer partners like CFOs and banks.
  5. Tech team support and tech implementation: Includes ideating opportunities to automate processes and improve farmer experience, testing prototypes and beta versions of software, providing feedback to the tech team, and implementing tech into business processes as it’s ready.

Our ideal candidate has the following characteristics. Good Agriculture encourages you to apply even if you do not meet all of these characteristics but are excited to develop them:

  • Experience developing financial reports (especially for small businesses) and adapting them to meet customer needs
  • Ability to help customers understand which numbers matter and to get those important numbers in front of customers
  • Fluent customer service skills and experience working directly with a wide variety of customers, from business owners to admin teams to senior finance people from banks and other partners
  • Experience in all the bookkeeping and financial management responsibilities detailed in Appendix A
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, including general data organization, pivot tables, Index/Match, and ability to learn and combine advanced formulas
  • Proficiency in Xero and/or QuickBooks Online including the advanced accounting, reconciliation, and reporting features of each
  • Experience working (or living) in agriculture

Good Agriculture is committed to creating an environment of shared prosperity, regeneration for our people as well as the environment, trust and openness, and continuous improvement in service to regenerative farmers. We are seeking the following characteristics in all candidates:

  • Detail-oriented problem-solver who is stubborn about tracking down discrepancies and ensuring accurate financial data
  • Passion for agriculture, sustainability, resilient food systems, and/or developing rural economies
  • Excitement to learn from feedback, wrestle with challenging problems, and grow
  • Excellent team player abilities including open communication, enthusiasm to help when needed, and a strong sense of integrity
  • Commitment to our values and to cultivating those values as the team grows

This will be a full-time position (potential for 25+ hour/week part-time for exceptional candidates) based in the United States. Good Agriculture offers an excellent company culture, competitive compensation with monthly performance bonuses, the opportunity for equity, a full benefits package for W-2 employees, and discounts on our customers’ products (the best farm-fresh food you will ever eat).

This will be a hybrid position based in Atlanta, GA (unless your family is actively running a farm or ranch in which case you will be fully remote). Relocation is available. This will be a W-2 (employee) position.

The expected pay for this position is $70,000-90,000 per year depending on the candidate’s level of experience (scaled to $40-50/hour for part-time candidates).
